Once a pup or a kit is weaned from its mother, they began to show signs of their powers. The young one is then trained by other animals of the same element. In training, animals progress through levels, learning a new skill or improving an old one at each level. There are the 4 elements, with 2 paths for each. Leaders are masters (and beyond) of both paths in their element, but most other animals are in only one path.
Elements are predisposed at birth and cannot be chosen or changed. They tend to run in bloodlines, and match with one's personality, strengths, and weaknesses. One also ends up being tinted in the color of their element (Fire=Red, Water=Blue, Earth=Green, Air=White).
To become a master (level 3-4) of a path, an animal must complete a quest from Ishan. Between seasons, the tribes gather in peace to compare and assess each others skill. This is also when tribemembers go on their quest.
Winter-Spring = Air {Travel to the top of the largest mountain of Atlaea}
Spring-Summer = Water {Reach the temple at the bottom of the lake}
Summer-Fall = Fire {Climb to the top of the volcano on the nearby island}
Fall-Winter = Earth {Survive the underground labyrinth}
